acupressure and acupuncture

This approach to health and healing represents an old and venerable tradition. With the idea of Ch´i (one´s life force) at the center, this approach sees the human being as whole, with the mind, body and spirit as one. Focusing on the flow of this life force energy, the goal is to achieve and maintain harmony and balance. Anytime the flow is disrupted and disharmony appears, an imbalance occurs. Symptoms are an imbalance made manifest. Unlike traditional allopathic medicine that sees the symptoms as the problem to be solved, this approach to medicine looks at the symptoms as indicators of an underlying condition or situation.

Unlike many practioners who make this the singular focal point of their work, I use acupressure/acupuncture as a kind of adjunct to the other approaches in my practice. As a licensed practitioner, I am certified in the field and use it as one possible strategy in treating patients. The choice of this approach is based on the individual´s health and situation. There is no specific patient profile for this modality; rather, I will choose this approach if it is seems to be the best choice.

Based on the concept that each organ has various elements associated with it, and that a person´s Ch´i moves along various meridians in the body, needles, pressure or magnets can be applied to aid the body in redirecting the energy flow to a healthier pattern or path. In treating patients, I will often begin with acupressure techniques. Depending upon the results, additional work may be needed, including that with needles.
